Two masterpieces composed exactly a century apart – Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 in 1788 and Fauré’s Requiem in 1888 ̶ constitute this OSM program conducted by Kent Nagano.

Both works are of unsurpassed loveliness. One writer described the Mozart symphony as “an immense portico through which the composer reveals to us all the warm and poetic beauty thronging through his mind.” Fauré’s Requiem too is something quite special. Words like gentle, subdued, soothing, reticent, intimate and restrained often come to mind while listening to this Requiem. Both works speak to us with immediacy and directness.
