We at the Festival de Lanaudière are fortunate to be able to count on dynamic employees who work hard to produce Canada’s largest classical music festival. Please meet Emma-Genevièvea vibrant person with an ever-present smile and who has brought sunshine into our lives for the past 5 years.

Can you tell us about yourself in a few words?     

Je m’appelle Emma-Geneviève Murray St-Louis (oui, c’est long ! 😊) et je suis née à Montréal, mais j’habite dans la région de Joliette depuis presque toujours. Je travaille au Festival depuis 5 ans. J’ai d’abord été engagée comme adjointe administrative. Mon poste a évolué au fil du temps et je suis maintenant coordonnatrice des opérations et de l’artistique.

After my college studies, I was not really sure what I wanted to do in life, but I knew I was inspired to work in the cultural domain. For a little over 5 years, I was employed by an independent francophone rock music label in Montreal, after which I had an urge to reconnect a bit more with my region and to come back here to work. I was very lucky to have found a job in my field and in my region.

Can you name some elements that you enjoy about your job?

• I love how it feels seeing that my work really does benefit the people who come to attend concerts. For many people, art and music are like therapy.
• The sense of pride and accomplishment in putting together the largest classical music festival in Canada and in working with the greatest classical music artists in the world.

Peux-tu me nommer un beau souvenir d’une édition précédente du Festival ? 

Le concert Wagner Épique de la saison 2022 m’a littéralement jetée par terre. Et c’était d’autant plus satisfaisant lorsqu’on connait tout le travail que notre équipe a fait en amont afin de rendre ce concert magistral possible. Beaucoup de bonheur et de fierté!

What does a “typical” workday look like when the Festival is gearing up to launch?

In the run-up to the Festival, every day is different, and we manage our days through prioritizing by degree of urgency. This often involves a huge number of calls and emails to coordinate the final preparations before the Festival begins.

Tell us about yourself !

What are your favourite activities in your spare time?

J’adore faire des randonnées et passer du temps en nature. J’aime aussi beaucoup cuisiner, aller voir des spectacles, jouer à des jeux de société, faire des soupers entre amis, etc. J’ai aussi un beau gros chien qui répond au nom de Beth. Elle aura bientôt 6 ans et elle occupe bien mes temps libres. Récemment j’ai aussi recommencé à dessiner et peindre et je réalise à quel point ça m’avait manqué !

Where in the world do you most enjoy spending time?

Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine sont définitivement mon endroit favori sur terre! C’est d’ailleurs la terre qui a vu naitre mon arrière-grand-mère, mais aussi mon amoureux. J’ai donc la chance de pouvoir y passer plusieurs mois par année (grâce au télétravail!) et je rêve de pouvoir y vivre un jour. Il y a quelque chose de particulier avec l’air salin et le rythme de vie insulaire qui fait qu’il n’y a aucun endroit où je me sens mieux que là-bas.

Can you name your top three favourite artists?          

Mon dieu, quelle question difficile! Mes parents m’ont initiée à la musique dès ma tendre enfance. Il y avait TOUJOURS de la musique qui jouait à la maison et dans la voiture. J’ai un attachement particulier pour la musique québécoise, mais mes goûts musicaux vont vraiment dans tous les sens. Ces temps-ci, j’écoute beaucoup de Jean Leloup, Genesis et Cory Wong.

But I could also mention Richard Desjardins, Alaclair Ensemble, Rouge Pompier, Pink Floyd, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Thrice, Les Colocs, the list could go on forever!

What is your guilty pleasure?

I have a hard time saying “no” to chocolate!

Do you have any dreams you would like to fulfill?

I dream of travelling more.
