Born in Catania, he began his vocal studies at the Scuola Civica in Milan, continuing his training with E. Abumradi, E. Martelli and A. Goussev, and attending master classes given by A. Curtis.

His concert career has seen him interpret a repertoire that ranges from madrigal to cantata, from oratorio to baroque opera. Appreciated for both his deep bass voice and wide range, he has played, among others, all roles of Monteverdi’s works, including in recent years, performances at the Paris Opéra and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini and directed by Bob Wilson.

Thanks to his stentorian yet flexible voice, he is an appreciated performer of oratorio roles of great dramatic force and at the same time sought for his vocal sensitivity by the most prestigious madrigal ensembles.
Among the many renowned stages on which he has performed, perhaps most notable are the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Arsenal of Metz, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Bruges, the Tokyo Opera City Hall, the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, ​​the Versailles Opéra Royale, the San Carlo in Naples, the Comunale in Modena, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the BAM and the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Odeon in Paris, the Moore Theater in Seattle, the São Carlos in Lisbon, the Stavovske Divadlo in Prague.
Among the most recent recordings we may mention the collaboration with Cecilia Bartoli in Steffani’s Stabat Mater for Decca, Orfeo and Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria of Monteverdi for Glossa, Il Mattuttino de’ Morti of Perez for Sony, and many others for Naïve, Stradivarius, Chandos, K617, Dynamic, Amadeus, Symphonia, and Brilliant.
